ChinaDaily : A Glimpse into the Future: Drone Light Shows and the GBA's Low-Altitude Economy"

Samuel Lam Hon-yuen, CEO of X Social Group, has extended his heartfelt appreciation to China Daily for the opportunity to participate in an interview. It was a privilege for him to share insights on business alongside esteemed experts in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), discussing the development of the low-altitude economy and the significant role of Drone Light Shows in Hong Kong.

In his remarks, Lam highlighted the low-altitude economy's substantial green and environmental attributes, emphasizing its emergence as a vital representative of new quality productive forces. This term distinguishes innovative and eco-friendly sectors, such as electric vehicles, from traditional growth models.

Lam underscored the importance of Hong Kong's common law system, which serves as a critical legal foundation that enhances the city's role as a "superconnector," bridging the mainland with the global community. Our company is committed to expanding the drone light show business into approximately 20 countries, including various nations in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. He observed that many contracting parties favor finalizing agreements in Hong Kong, as businesses regard legal considerations as a significant concern in other jurisdictions.

Looking ahead, Lam emphasized the necessity of balancing regulations and development on a global scale. He cited Hong Kong as an example, where drone operations primarily occur at altitudes of 90 meters above ground level to prevent conflicts with helicopters and other aircraft. However, he pointed out that current regulations require small drone operators to obtain permission from the Civil Aviation Department to fly in unenclosed areas, thereby limiting their operational flexibility.

Additionally, Lam addressed the existing challenges posed by various airspace control zones in Hong Kong, notably around Victoria Harbour, airports, and hospitals. He noted that current aviation regulations restrict drones to a maximum weight of 25 kilograms, rendering them unsuitable for passenger transport within the city.

In conclusion, Lam's insights shed light on the potential of the low-altitude economy and the need for regulatory evolution to foster innovation while ensuring safety and environmental sustainability.
